OFFICIAL RULES

No Purchase Necessary

Eligibility: Contest is open to bands made up of High School (Grades 9-12) and Middle School (Grades 8 and below) students or a combination of High School students and Middle Schools students. Bands and each of their members (hereinafter “Band”) must be: (1) amateurs and have never signed a commercial recording contract; and (2) registered for the 2020-2021 school year as a High School, Middle School or Elementary School student.  If any member of a band is a High School student, the band will be placed in the High School category.

To Enter: A designated representative of the band (hereinafter “Entrant”) must visit www.RidgefieldPlayhouse.org/BandJam to access the contest official entry form. Entrant must coordinate the completion of the official entry form for each band member.  Bands must include at least three members and no more than eight.. For any band member under the age of eighteen, a parent or legal guardian must agree, on behalf of his/her child to the terms of these Official Rules and participation in this contest by signing in the designated space on the official entry form.

 HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR ENTRY

Email the following to be received by May 10, 2021 to: RidgefieldBandJam@nullgmail.com

  • Completed Band Entry Form
  • YouTube link (public or private) to a video of the band performing one song (live performance or rehearsal).
  • MP3 audio file of the band performing one song (live performance, rehearsal or studio recording). You may submit a 2nd YouTube link (as per above) in lien of an MP3 audio file.

Note at least one of the submitted songs must be a cover (one may be an original composition).  All entries must be received no later than May 10, 2021.

IMPORTANT: Recordings and songs performed may not be defamatory or obscene, and may not include profanities or other inappropriate material as determined by BandJam.  Any such entries will be disqualified.  BandJam will not acknowledge any entry which does not meet all entry requirements (including a parent or legal guardian’s signature where required) and will disqualify those entries. Bands comprising all Middle School students (or a combination of Middle School and Elementary School students) must enter the Middle School category.

Selection Process: The selection process will occur in three phases as outlined below:

 Phase #1 Semi-Finalist Selection:All eligible entries received will be judged by BandJam judges to select Middle School and High School Bands to participate in Phase 2 as described below.  The decisions of the BandJam judges are final.  Entries will be judged on Sound, Musicianship and Stage Presence based on the following judging criteria (“Judging Criteria”):

Judging Criteria

Sound (50%) 

  • Overall “sound” of the band.
  • Does the band play in tempo?
  • Is the band together on beginnings and endings?
  • Is the song fluid throughout the performance?

Musicianship (30%)

  • Technical ability and proficiency of the musicians.

Stage Presence (20%)

  • Is the band confident on stage?
  • Is the band into the performance?
  • Is the band engaging with the audience?
  • Is there interaction between the musicians?

In the event of a tie in any of the above Phases, all tied entries will be decided at the judge’s sole discretion.

Phase #2 Semi-Finalist Live Audition: The Semi-Finalist Bands will be required to audition before a panel of BandJam judges.  Each Semi-Finalist band will be allotted 12 minutes for its audition (minimum of two songs).  At least one song must be a cover. The Semi-Finalist Bands will be judged by a panel of BandJam judges based on the Judging Criteria to determine which Middle School and High School Bands will participate in Phase 3. The decisions of the BandJam judges are final.  If a Band member is unable to attend the Semi-Finals live audition, the Band may continue minus that Band Member. No substitute players are permitted. If the Band is selected for the Finals, the absent Band member may rejoin.
NOTE: All Semi-Finalist Bands will perform on the drum kit and PA provided by BandJam (drummers may bring their own drum pedals, stools and reasonable additional pieces).  Participants may use amplification provided by BandJam or bring their own amps.

Phase #3 Finalists Performance: On June 6, 2021 beginning at 4:00 PM, the Finalist Bands will perform before BandJam judges and a live audience at The Ridgefield Playhouse. Each Finalist band will be allotted 12 minutes to perform (minimum of two songs).  At least one song must be a cover. The Finalist Bands will be judged by a panel of celebrity musicians and/or music industry professionals (designated by BandJam) based on the Judging Criteria to determine a winner in each of the Middle School and High School category. The decisions of the BandJam judges are final.  If a Band member is unable to attend the Finals, the Band may continue minus that Band member. No substitute players are permitted.
NOTE: All Finalist Bands will perform on the drum kit and PA provided by BandJam (drummers may bring their own drum pedals, stools and reasonable additional pieces).  Participants may use amplification provided by BandJam or bring your their amps.
In the event of a tie in any of the above Phases, all tied entries will be decided at the judge’s sole discretion.
All Bands must act in a professional and courteous manner at all times or be subject to disqualification from the BandJam competition. Additionally, all Finalist Bands must be in full attendance throughout the Finals (if selected).  If a band departs early from the Finals, that Band will be subject to disqualification from the BandJam competition.

A Middle School student may perform with both a High School Band and a Middle School Band.  Bands comprising all Middle School students (or a combination of Middle School and Elementary School students) must enter the Middle School category.
The Ridgefield Playhouse disclaims responsibility for incomplete, lost, late, damaged, inaudible, illegible or misdirected entries. In the event any portion of the BandJam contest is cancelled, there will be no obligation of The Ridgefield Playhouse in any manner. Semi-Finalist and Finalist Bands must be available and agree to perform on dates designated by BandJam. If unable to do so, the Band will be disqualified and an alternate band selected. Decisions of the BandJam Event Director and the BandJam judges are final and binding. By participating, each Band member and his or her parent or legal guardian, as applicable, acknowledge(s) having read these Official Rules in their entirety and agree(s) to abide by and be bound by them. Each Band member agrees that The Ridgefield Playhouse shall have the right and permission to use (unless prohibited by law) each Band’s bio, Band members’ names and towns/cities of residence, digital audio and video files, photographs or likenesses, or portions thereof in advertisements and/or in the promotion of BandJam and The Ridgefield Playhouse.  Each Band Member agrees and acknowledges that The Ridgefield Playhouse shall have no liability and each Band member agrees to hold The Ridgefield Playhouse harmless for any liability, loss, injury or damage to Band members or any other person or entity arising out of or in connection with BandJam, including personal injury, death or damage to personal or real property, due in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, by reason of or otherwise related to rehearsing for, performing / participating in, or attending any BandJam activity, accepting a prize in connection with BandJam, travel to and from BandJam activities and any other activities associated with BandJam.
