Watching the start and rise of social media it was interesting to be be ale to see a person’s history without even knowing them. You would be able to see the “lifestyle” people portrayed and even started to see fake personas that made people a living off of. Social media platforms gave everyone the opportunity for their 15 minute of fame. As an artist, I believe it’s important to document the time period we live in today. The cellphone is the most iconic and relatable tool that almost everyone uses daily. Using the cellphone as a constant format for my paintings, I can tell different stories and show real and fake realities of life through relatable applications that even the average person would use and understand. We live a lot of our lives looking at a screen through our phones. Hours upon hours a day looking at content, communicating with others, doing business, checking the time, and reminding others what we look like. The cellphone is the digital window into a reality we can construct. We can save or delete our history to make our past be what we want it to be remembered. I wanted to create my own “one true self” through using personal history from moments on my phone. Fact, fiction, hidden past, future accomplishments, and of course selfies. I capture digital moments to create physical history. https://www.chazwellz.com/
