An Evening Celebrating Jimmy Grashow: Film and Conversation

$25 General Admission $20 Seniors & Students

Join us and The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum for a special hometown screening of Jimmy and the Demons, a new documentary that celebrates the creative life and work of Redding resident Jimmy Grashow.

“For six decades, sculptor James Grashow has transformed ordinary materials into extraordinary art. At 79, this prolific creator…dedicates four years to “The Cathedral”: a five-foot wooden sculpture depicting Christ bearing the weight of a Renaissance-era cathedral on his back while demons claw him from below. Director Cindy Meehl’s intimate film follows the artist’s multi-year struggle as he…confronts his mortality throughout the project, the sculpture becomes a competition between light and darkness, a devotional tribute to life’s joys and impermanence. Through patient observation, Meehl captures the physical demands of Jimmy’s craft alongside his humor, philosophical depth and enduring love for his wife, Guzzy. What emerges is not merely a portrait of an acclaimed artist…but a celebration of creativity’s power to confront life, as Jimmy does, “one demon at a time.”—Alexander Yan, 2025 Tribeca Film Festival

Following the screening, stay for a conversation with director Cindy Meehl, Jimmy and Guzzy Grashow and Cybele Maylone, Executive Director of The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum. Audience members will be invited to submit questions in advance.

Jimmy Grashow’s connection to The Aldrich is deeply rooted. The Museum has presented his work on multiple landmark occasions, including the monumental outdoor installation Corrugated Fountain and YaZOO!, in which he transformed a gallery into a fantastical zoo of jungle animals. These projects brought Grashow’s distinct blend of whimsy, scale, and craftsmanship into vivid dialogue with The Aldrich’s galleries and grounds.

This event is presented in collaboration by The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum and the Ridgefield Playhouse.
